Grant Opportunity: “Strong Communities, Better Connections”

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) and the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) continue to work together aligning goals, policies, and programs to support vibrant community centers and transportation options and are pleased to announce the Strong Communities, Better Connections (SCBC) — a new funding partnership connecting land use and transportation investments to support community and economic development.

“This strategic partnership provides an innovative approach that links transportation and community economic development,” said Deputy Transportation Secretary, Sue Minter. “By leveraging state, federal and local resources, we can help communities get the tools they need to plan transportation investments that enhance community vitality and resilience.”

“Transportation investments support economic development, influence the affordability of transportation and housing for Vermonters, and shape the character and quality of life in our downtowns and villages” said Housing and Community Development Commissioner Noelle MacKay, “This new partnership works to ensure that state and local policies are coordinated and promote the type of investment and development that is good for Vermont’s economy, community and environment.”

Approximately $200,000 of total funding is available help Vermont municipalities outside of Chittenden County integrate transportation and land use investments. Applications are due October 3, 2014 and complete grant guidance is available online. Please visit:
