Community Planner

Position Description

ACRPC is looking for an experienced Community Planner to join our team. This position is responsible for supporting Addison County municipalities in a broad range of town and regional planning projects. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: Regional and local land use planning, downtown and village center planning, zoning policy, active transportation networks, stormwater master planning, energy planning, affordable housing and historic preservation.  The planner will develop and implement public engagement initiatives, grant writing support, and facilitate strategic planning processes with volunteer committees, municipal staff, and a wide range of regional and state partners.

Skills

The candidate must be self-motivated and enjoy collaborating on multi-disciplinary planning projects. They must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, project and budget management, community engagement skills, and be comfortable working with diverse interest groups. Candidates must have excellent presentation skills, experience working with spreadsheets and databases, interpreting concept plans and construction drawings, and be familiar with U.S. Census data and demographic analysis. They must have experience writing municipal planning and policy documents. A working knowledge of Excel is expected; Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS (or QGIS), and website capability is preferred.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years planning experience, with proven success in project management and public engagement.  A degree in municipal and/or regional planning, geography, landscape architecture or other related field is preferred. Familiarity with Vermont land use regulations and AICP certification is a plus, but not required. Must be willing to attend evening meetings.

Compensation

The position is full time. The starting salary for the position will range from approximately $40,000 – $57,500 depending upon experience. ACRPC provides excellent benefits and has a cooperative and flexible working environment.
