Position Available

Addison County River Watch Collaborative (ACRWC) seeks a Technical Advisor.

Addison County River Watch Collaborative monitors and assesses the condition and uses of six local rivers over the long term, raises public awareness of the values and functions of our watersheds, and supports stewardship that improves water quality.

ACRWC was formed in late 1997 to unite ongoing stream-monitoring efforts by citizens in the Addison County region. Citizen monitoring efforts for these streams have involved various water quality measurements, including bacteria, total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), turbidity and water temperature.

The Technical Advisor, a part-time position, fulfills these key roles:
• The scientist helping to structure the sampling process
• Preparing the Vermont Agriculture and Environmental Laboratory (VAEL) proposal each season
• Interacting with the lab regarding bottles, labels, quality control and logistics
• Tracking and assessing data, and communicating provisional data to volunteer samplers and towns
• Preparing the Quality Assurance Report and the season’s annual summary report
• Meeting with the Board to advise and inform
• Participating in volunteer training
• Participating in grant writing

Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree (Masters preferred) in biology, earth science, geology, chemistry, environmental science or related fields
• Experience in water sampling protocols and lab processing and analysis
• Ability and interest in interpreting data and communicating same to the public
• Proficiency with GIS and Excel required
• Familiarity with statistical methods
• Passion and commitment to the science of water quality
