Rail Planning


ACRPC’s planning efforts call for an improved and coordinated rail and truck freight movements, especially along the Vermont Western Corridor. Encouraging greater utilization of freight and passenger rail is a sound strategic method which addresses air quality and energy concerns. However, ACRPC’s regional plan states that any improvements ought to be weighted against potential impacts to the quality of life in local communities.

Additionally, the 2010 Vermont Western Corridor Transportation Management Plan is an unprecedented attempt to plan the entire 200+ mile long corridor from the Canadian border to the Massachusetts border, improving the network infrastructure, rail and truck operations, and optimization of the overall transportation system; thereby improving the economic opportunities for each of the five regions along the corridor.
