POSITION:

The Addison County Regional Planning Commission (ACRPC) seeks to hire field technician for a 10-week period between May and August of 2023 (Specific timing depends on the availability of the candidate hired). This position is mainly field data collection. The Addison County Regional Planning Commission (ACRPC) is one of 11 regional planning commissions in Vermont. The Commission is charged with land use and transportation planning within Addison County, Vermont.  

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position’s main duties are field data collection and supporting computer work related to transportation infrastructure and clean water, focusing on the following projects/initiatives:

Field work to conduct municipal bridge and culvert inventories using GPS/GIS
Set-up & perform speed studies, traffic counts, and pedestrian counts at specified locations in Addison County
Post processing of inventory and count data
Additional projects may be assigned, as necessary

LOCATION:
Based in Middlebury, VT with field work throughout Addison County. Includes the municipalities of Middlebury, Vergennes, and Bristol as well as 18 other local municipalities.

DURATION:
May – Mid August 2023 depending on applicant availability.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Can work independently in an office environment and in the field.
Basic computer skills.
Strong technical and organizational skills.
Knowledge of traffic engineering, planning concepts, GIS, or field data collection is preferred
Must be able to pick up and carry equipment bins and/or toolboxes weighing roughly 40 pounds, work in outside conditions, and sit or stand for extended periods.
Must have their own transportation for getting to and from field sites.

BENEFITS:
Compensation: Pay is $15.00/hour and technicians are expected to work 37.5 hours per week. ACRPC will pay for task related mileage costs at the allowable IRS reimbursement rate. Standard work week is Monday-Friday with 7.5 hour days (flexible).

Gain experience in GIS applications, data collection and analysis, and infrastructure examination with the support of subject matter experts.

Posted 09/12/2022 Community Planner - Position

Position Description

ACRPC is looking for a Community Planner to join our team. This position is responsible for supporting Addison County municipalities in a broad range of town and regional planning projects. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: Regional and local land use planning, downtown and village center planning, zoning regulation development, affordable housing and historic preservation.  The planner will develop and implement public engagement initiatives and strategic planning processes with volunteer committees, municipal staff, and a wide range of regional and state partners. 

Skills

The candidate must be self-motivated and enjoy collaborating on multi-disciplinary planning projects. They must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, project and budget management and be comfortable working with diverse interest groups. Candidates must have experience working with spreadsheets and databases, interpreting concept plans and construction drawings, and be familiar with U.S. Census data and demographic analysis. They must have experience writing municipal planning and policy documents. 

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google docs is expected; Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS (or QGIS), and website capability is preferred. 

Qualifications

Candidates should have some planning experience, with proven success in project management and public engagement.  A degree in municipal and/or regional planning, geography, landscape architecture or other related fields is preferred. Familiarity with Vermont land use regulations and AICP certification is a plus, but not required. Must be willing to attend evening meetings.

Compensation

The position is full time. The starting salary for the position will range from approximately $40,000 – $50,000 depending upon experience.  ACRPC provides excellent benefits and has a cooperative and flexible working environment.
