Ripton

Ripton was chartered on April 13, 1781 by the Vermont State Legislature but was not settled for almost 20 years. The poet Robert Frost lived for many years in Ripton, and was instrumental in establishing the Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference. In 1953, the Vermont Legislature named a Green Mountain peak in the northwestern part of town, “Robert Frost Mountain,” in his honor.
