Monkton

Monkton is situated on the eastern edge of the Champlain Valley, in the beautiful ridge and valley foothills of the Green Mountains. It was chartered in 1762 and is home to the communities of Monkton Boro, Monkton Ridge, East Monkton and Barnumtown. Monkton has a thriving local food system with farms that produce and sell at their farms, farm stands and CSAs a bounty of vegetables, berries, orchard crops, cheeses, local meats, honey, maple syrup, and landscape plants. There are also several dairy operations in town. Monkton values its scenic beauty and rural character and has conserved 1635 acres of agriculture and natural areas. It has several recreational areas, including a dog park and Monkton Pond shown in the photo by Buzz Kuhns. Its location is ideal for families working in employment centers in Chittenden and Addison Counties.
